Drew

Tour Guide

Drew grew up in Florida, where he spent much of his childhood camping, exploring the outdoors, and developing a lifelong appreciation for nature. His passion for adventure and conservation led him to earn the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 18. Drew enjoys hiking, kayaking, and continuously learning about the natural world, and he has recently developed a strong interest in birding — with the Florida Scrub Jay ranking as his favorite species. He is currently pursuing two Bachelor of Science degrees at the University of Central Florida, studying both Ecology and Environmental Science as he works toward a career focused on protecting Florida’s unique ecosystems.

Sammie

Tour Guide

As a Florida native, Sammie has spent her life exploring the water — from paddle boarding and boating to enjoying Florida’s beautiful beaches. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and is currently pursuing a second degree in Nursing. With a passion for wildlife, conservation, and
Florida’s natural beauty, Sammie loves helping guests experience the unique waterways and unforgettable wildlife encounters that make Florida so special.

Brandi

Tour Guide

Brandi grew up in Titusville, Florida, unaware that one of nature’s most incredible phenomena existed right in her own backyard. That changed in 2018 when she joined A Day Away Kayak Tours and discovered a passion for bioluminescence that eventually led her to earn a degree in Environmental Studies and conduct research focused on the Indian River Lagoon with UCF’s Coastal and Estuarine Ecology Lab. She now works as a Park Ranger at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, where she continues her commitment to environmental education and conservation.

After more than eight years of guiding tours, Brandi still finds bioluminescence just as mesmerizing as the first time she experienced it, often saying, “It’s something you never really get used to.” One of her favorite facts to share with guests is that thousands of species around the world produce bioluminescence — far beyond just the dinoflagellates and comb jellies found in the Indian River Lagoon.

Jackson

Tour Guide

Jackson was born and raised on Florida’s Space Coast, where a lifelong connection to the water sparked his passion for kayaking, boating, fishing, and exploring the local waterways. Growing up surrounded by the Indian River Lagoon and the diverse ecosystems of Central Florida gave him a deep appreciation for the area’s wildlife and natural beauty.

One of Jackson’s favorite parts of guiding tours is that no two experiences are ever the same — from glowing bioluminescence and close wildlife encounters to unforgettable sunsets and unique guest interactions, every trip on the water brings something new. When he is not leading kayak tours, Jackson is pursuing a degree in Finance at the University of Central Florida while continuing to share his enthusiasm for the Space Coast with visitors from around the world.
